 PBL – Polish Medical Bibliography

The Polish Medical Bibliography is one of the oldest and largest specialized databases in Poland. It contains a rich collection of materials in the field of medical sciences:

  • articles from medical journals,
  • books,
  • doctoral and habilitation theses,
  • conference materials,

The database is created at the Medical Information Center of the Main Medical Library. It is available free of charge at the headquarters and branches of the MML. In the process of compiling and searching documents in PBL, the specialized information retrieval language Tez-MeSH is used. The database is also used to prepare thematic sets of medical literature on request.

Tez-MeSH

Tez-MeSH is a specialized terminological database used in the compilation and retrieval of documents in the Polish Medical Bibliography and other sources of medical information. The database is regularly updated and developed, and use of it is free of charge at the headquarters and branches of the Main Medical Library.

The translation of new source descriptors into Polish is carried out by MML staff with medical and biomedical education. The terminology contained in Tez-MeSH, together with the indexing rules adopted by the US National Library of Medicine (NLM), is used to create content descriptions for documents entered into the Polish Medical Bibliography database and the MML library catalog. The database enables consistent, precise, and effective indexing and searching of medical literature.

Biogram

The database developed at the Main Medical Library is a specialized source of knowledge about people associated with medicine. It includes both living and deceased figures whose activities have been documented in the latest Polish medical literature.

The system will also collect extended author profiles, supplemented with their publications, which will allow for a transparent link between biographical data and scientific achievements and professional accomplishments.

Catalog of Journals Indexed in PBL

In parallel, a list of scientific journal titles included in the Polish Medical Bibliography is maintained. It contains detailed information about Polish and foreign serial publications in the field of medical sciences, including identification and bibliographic data such as ISSN, publisher information, publication frequency, and subject scope.

This list makes it possible to identify publication sources and facilitates monitoring the current scientific output in the field of medicine.
