Ladies and Gentlemen!

We are happy and proud to announce that the University of Opole Library has completed the implementation of Alma – a state-of-the-art integrated system for managing library resources. Together with the proven Primo search engine, users receive even better and more effective tools to use the extensive collection of books, magazines, electronic materials and other library collections. This is a significant step into the future, which improves the quality of library services and improves access to knowledge, literature, entertainment and broadly understood culture.

The duo of Alma and Primo allows you to quickly search and order books online, easily manage your account and track your borrowing history. Alma features apply to all library processes. The system will communicate with readers via e-mail, sending notifications regarding loans and returns, reminders about the approaching deadline for returning library materials, or about exceeding this deadline. A logged-in reader can filter and narrow search results, export them to other applications, save queries for later use, remember selected items, extend the return date of borrowed materials, place orders for titles of interest, or propose the purchase of new items for the collection.

Traditionally, we encourage students, researchers and literature lovers to use the services of the UO Library – from now on in the innovative Alma system. From the user’s perspective, the changes may not be visible to the naked eye, but we guarantee that what is most valuable is hidden inside… and serves everyone. Be part of our library family and discover the possibilities offered by the University of Opole Library! We invite you.

The Beginnings of the Adventure with Alma

Alma was created by Ex Libris in cooperation with four large institutions: Boston College, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Princeton University Library and Purdue University Library. In our area, it was decided to create a Nationwide Library Network and include other libraries in it. In the first stage of building the OSB platform, the Alma system and the Primo search engine were implemented in the National Library, the Jagiellonian Library, the Provincial Public Library in Lublin and the Provincial Public Library in Kielce. The implementation of the system in the Library of the University of Opole is the result of the positive consideration of the application submitted to the National Library for the free implementation of the Alma system and the Primo search engine.

Let us remind you: On December 22, 2021, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage approved the ranking list of institutions recommended for this project. The list includes 16 large libraries included in the National Library Network. In this ranking, the University of Opole Library took a high fifth place! The Alma system was launched free of charge and will operate fully in the cloud, replacing the existing Aleph library system. This introduces our Library to the group of institutions involved in unifying the system at the national level. In total – by 2025 – it is to create a platform bringing together 500 libraries.
